92 points. Estate grown, dry farmed, $25. The best value white this winery makes.

This is the bottle the tasting room regulars buy by the case, and the scores back them up. The 2024 earned 92 points from Paul G at Northwest Wine Guide and 89 points from Wine Enthusiast.

Pinot Gris has been part of the program since the beginning. Cardwell Hill produces estate bottled Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris and Rosé from Pinot Noir. And the house has real pedigree in the variety: the 2014 Estate Pinot Gris took Best of Class Pinot Gris/Pinot Grigio and 95 points at the 35th Annual San Francisco International Competition.

Tasting notes, 2024

Light and crisp with a wonderful stone fruit mid palate that shows length for days. A great food wine to pair with anything that has a hint of spice.

  • Colour: pale straw with a faint copper glint, typical of Oregon Gris
  • Nose: white peach, Meyer lemon, pear skin and honeysuckle
  • Palate: crisp and dry, with a genuinely textural stone fruit core rather than a thin, neutral Grigio profile
  • Finish: long, clean, citrus edged
  • Drink: now through 2028
  • Serve: 48 to 52°F, in a white wine glass, not over chilled

The house style on this label runs richer than most. A prior vintage drew this from Wine Enthusiast: a superb value in Oregon Pinot Gris, with rich, concentrated flavors of Meyer lemon, honey, crisp apple and peaches with a splash of cream.

Why it overdelivers

  • Dry farmed and certified sustainable by both Salmon Safe and LIVE
  • Estate grown and processed in the winery's gravity flow facility within two hours of harvest, which is why the fruit reads so fresh
  • A family owned boutique winery making just over 5,000 cases a year in total
  • 645 awards since 2003, from a producer most people outside Oregon have never heard of

Perfect with

Dungeness crab, oysters, halibut, Thai curry, pork loin with apple, prosciutto and melon, goat cheese, roast chicken. It handles chili heat better than almost any dry white at this price.
