Estate-grown Cabernet from one of the hottest sites in Washington. Proprietary Rock is a limited production, 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, 100% estate grown at Double D Vineyard, and it gets its name from the prolific glacial river cobbles found throughout the LIVE and Salmon-Safe certified vineyard alongside the Columbia River in Orondo, Washington. Rocky Pond's irrigation pond holds 1.1 million gallons of water and is lined with those same cobbles. The flagship vineyard is named after the original "DD," David Dufenhorst, and has a north-facing slope with 55 acres of Bordeaux and Rhône varieties planted between 700 and 940 feet. This is one of the hottest sites in Washington, with heat units similar to Red Mountain.

The geology is the whole personality of this wine. The bedrock is migmatitic tonalite gneiss formed during the Missoula Floods, and the glacial outwash and redeposited river cobbles are mostly granitic with basalt present as well. Wind-blown sand and silt were carried back to the area topsoil over the last 14,000 years. The soil type is defined as Pogue cobbly fine sandy loam.

Tasting Notes Classic Columbia Valley Cabernet: cassis, blackberry, and dark plum at the core, with violet, cedar, cocoa, and a savory herb edge. Ripe, generous fruit framed by firm but polished tannins and a long, cobble-stone finish. Decant and it opens into something seriously plush.
